Well went on a few adventures today. First I rode the bus for the first time. We had to go to the JCU campus for orientation today. After yesterday's crazy walking adventure I decided to take the bus with my roommates. It is a lot more civil; it took 20 minutes including the wait for the bus. After the orientation I took the bus back as well. I am going to do this from now on I think, at least most days. As much as I like to walk, this might be a little much. Only thing is that the bus ride is quite bumpy, I just need to remember to not drink anything while on it. Otherwise it will be all down my front.
The second adventure of the day was grocery shopping. I wandered around my neighborhood for a little bit getting to know it and scoping out the grocery stores. It went well for the most part, only a few flubs. Apparently you are supposed to weigh the tomatoes yourself and print out the barcode for them. I didn't do that, since I am used to it being weighed at the cash register. The cashier asked me where the sticker was (I am guessing), and when I responded to his rapid fire Italian with "Bah...Um..." and a blank stare he very nicely understood and weighed the tomatoes for me showing me what I had to do. Won't make that mistake again...knock on wood. Also the plastic-wrap is like a torture device here. The sharp teeth are on the outside of the box, so just holding it is painful. That and it seems to be extra sticky. I had way more issues than I should've using it. I guess I am just plastic-wrap challenged. But seriously, why put the teeth on the outside? That is just mean.
My third adventure actually hasn't happened yet. I want to cook dinner tonight with the groceries I bought. Last night I had dinner with all of my roommates, but it was just spaghetti and tomato sauce - nothing fancy. I will let you know how my solo-cooking adventure goes in my next post. And hopefully I will have some photos to share with you of our apartment, neighborhood etc.
In the mean time, I suggest you watch this. I have only been here a few days, but I already see the truth to it. Europe vs. Italy
Valete!
